# Transfers

> Offering an animal and its records to a partner rescue, answering an offer made to you, and what is carried across when one is accepted.

**Transfers** moves an animal, and its records, between your rescue and a partner rescue that also uses RescueConsole. One rescue offers; the other accepts or declines. Nothing changes on either side until the offer is accepted.

Open it from the search palette (the **Search** box at the top of the page, or **Ctrl K**, **⌘ K** on a Mac) by typing "Transfers". Anyone whose role can **See** Animals can open it. Offering, accepting, declining and withdrawing need **Change** on Animals.

## Partner rescues

You can only transfer with a rescue you have linked with as a partner. Partners are linked under **Settings → Organization → Partner rescues**, by an invitation to an email address at the other rescue; see [Organization settings](/settings/organization). The **Partner rescues** link at the top of the Transfers page goes there.

If a partnership ends, any offer between the two rescues that nobody has answered is withdrawn, with the note "The partnership ended."

## Offering an animal

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the animal">
    On the animal's record, open the **Actions** menu (the menu button at the top of the record) and choose **Transfer to a partner…**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the partner">
    Choose the **Partner rescue**. Add **A note to them** if you like: why this animal, and what they should know.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Offer">
    Press **Offer the transfer**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The partner rescue's Organization admins, Directors and Shelter managers are notified, with your note.

Until they answer, your animal's record says **Transfer offered to** the partner, with the day, and nothing else about it changes: its status, its listing and everything on the record stay as they are. **Withdraw the offer** on the record, or **Withdraw** on the Transfers page, takes it back.

An animal can be offered to one partner at a time. An animal already transferred out cannot be offered again, and the menu does not offer it. If you have no partners yet, the panel says so and links to **Settings → Organization → Partner rescues**.

## Answering an offer

Offers made to you are listed under **Offered to you**, each with the animal, its species, the rescue offering it, the day, and their note.

* **Accept** brings the animal across. The offer then reads that the animal "is now yours", with **Open the record**.
* **Decline** asks why, if you would like them to know (optional), then **Decline the offer**.

The person who made the offer is notified either way, with your note if you declined.

An offer cannot be accepted if the partnership has ended, if the other rescue no longer has the animal on its books, or if it was already transferred.

## What is carried across

Accepting makes a new record in the receiving rescue.

The new record:

* arrives in care, dated today, with an intake of type **Transfer in** from the sending rescue;
* is not shown on the public site until you publish it;
* has no pet ID. The sender's pet ID is kept as its previous ID;
* says **Received from** the sending rescue, with the day, what was copied across ("3 medical, 2 weights, 5 photos copied across"), and their ID.

The sender's record is kept as it was, and:

* its status becomes transferred out, with today as its outcome date;
* it is taken off the public site and out of its housing;
* it says **Transferred to** the partner, with the day: "This record is kept as it was; the animal and its records went with them."

If either rescue publishes to the microchip registry, the chip's registration is updated for both.

<Warning>
  An accepted transfer cannot be undone. To send the animal back, the receiving rescue offers it back as a new transfer.
