# Organization-Wide Calendar – Shifts, Events, and Tasks

> One calendar showing every dated item across all workspaces — shifts, events, medical due dates, arrivals, adoptions, tasks, and document expiries.

The RescueConsole calendar brings everything with a date into one view, regardless of which workspace it came from. A shift opening, an animal's vaccine due date, a scheduled vet appointment, an upcoming fundraiser, a task deadline, a foster contract expiry — they all appear here. Instead of checking each workspace separately to know what needs attention today, you open the calendar and see it all at once.

## What appears on the calendar

The calendar draws from every workspace that has a date attached to its records:

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Shifts & Schedules" icon="clock">
    Every volunteer shift window, including partial bookings and how many places are still open for each role.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Events" icon="calendar-days">
    Adoption days, clinics, fundraisers, training sessions, and meetings — all events with a scheduled date.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Medical Due Dates" icon="syringe">
    Vaccine boosters, treatment follow-ups, and any medical item on an animal's record with a scheduled or due date. A scheduled vet visit is a full calendar appointment; finishing it in the record asks you what happened.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Arrivals & Adoptions" icon="paw-print">
    Intake dates and adoption completion dates for animals, so you can see volume patterns and plan capacity.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Tasks" icon="circle-check">
    Tasks from any record, with their due dates and priorities. High-priority and overdue tasks also surface on the dashboard agenda so nothing is buried.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Document Expiries" icon="file-circle-exclamation">
    Documents attached to records or to the organization can carry an expiry date. A lapsed insurance certificate or an expired qualification is flagged directly on the calendar so you see it before it becomes a problem.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## The source filter rail

The left rail of the calendar lets you narrow what's displayed by source — show only shifts, only medical items, only events, or any combination. When you're planning a clinic weekend you might hide everything except events and shifts; when you're doing a medical review you'd show only medical due dates. The filter is per-session, so it doesn't change what anyone else sees.

## Calendar views

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Month">
    The default view. Shows every item across the full month as chips on their dates, giving you a density overview of how busy any given week is. Good for spotting gaps in staffing or clusters of medical work.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Week">
    A day-column grid across seven days, with items positioned by time where a time is known. Useful for scheduling coordination when you need to see how shifts and events overlap on specific days.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Day">
    A single-day hour grid. Use this when you're in the middle of a busy adoption day or clinic and want to track what's happening hour by hour.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Agenda">
    A chronological list of upcoming items, soonest first. The same agenda view appears on the dashboard, surfacing what needs attention today and in the next few days without requiring you to navigate to the calendar.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## Scheduled vet visits as calendar appointments

When you schedule a veterinary appointment for an animal, it appears on the calendar as a proper appointment — not just a note. When the visit date arrives, opening the appointment asks you to record what happened: findings, treatments, follow-up due dates. That keeps the medical record current without a separate step to go back and update it.

## Tasks with due dates

Any task created from any record — an animal record, a person record, a donation, an event — carries an optional due date and a priority. Tasks with due dates appear on the calendar on their due day. Overdue and high-priority tasks are also highlighted in the dashboard agenda so they stay visible even if you're not opening the calendar directly.

## Document expiry dates

When you attach a document to a record or to the organization as a whole, you can set an expiry date. Liability insurance, foster agreements, vaccination certificates, background checks — anything with a "valid until" date. The calendar surfaces expiring documents before they lapse, so you have time to renew rather than discovering the gap after the fact.

<Note>
  The calendar shows only what your role permits you to see. A volunteer sees their own shifts and any public events; a coordinator sees the full shift schedule for their location; an organization admin sees everything. Items from workspaces you don't have access to don't appear.
