Every page in RescueConsole has the same frame: the sidebar down the left, the header across the top, and a trail of breadcrumbs above the page itself. This page explains each of them. What you see depends on your role. A sidebar row or a search result that leads somewhere your role cannot open is left out rather than shown and refused, and so are most buttons for things your role cannot do. Two people at the same rescue can see different sidebars, and both are right. If you need something you cannot see, ask an Organization admin to look at your role (see [Team](/settings/team)). ## Sidebar The sidebar lists the places you can go. The row for the page you are on is highlighted. The first rows have no heading. Each one gathers work from across the rescue, and shows you only the parts your role can read. | Row | What it is for | | --------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Dashboard** | Your starting page: what is due, counts, and a quick search. See [Dashboard](/getting-started/dashboard). | | **Tasks** | Follow-ups and workflow steps, yours and your team's. See [Tasks](/everyday/tasks). | | **Documents** | Files kept with animals, people and other records. See [Documents](/everyday/documents). | | **Calendar** | What is happening and what is due, by month, week or day. See [Calendar](/everyday/calendar). | | **Submissions** | What people have sent in through your forms. See [Submissions](/everyday/submissions). | Under **Workspaces** is one row for each area of the rescue's work. You see a row only if your role can read that workspace. | Row | What it is for | | ------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Animals** | Every animal, and the records around them. See [the animals list](/animals/list). | | **People** | Adopters, fosters, volunteers, donors and everyone else. See [the people list](/people/list). | | **Organizations** | Clinics, vets, partner rescues and other organizations. See [the organizations list](/organizations/list). | | **Communications** | Your rescue's shared email. See [the inbox](/communications/inbox). | | **Fundraising** | Donations, donors and campaigns. See [Donations](/fundraising/donations). | | **Events** | The occasions your rescue hosts. See [Events](/events/events). | | **Shifts** | The volunteer rota. See [Shifts](/shifts/shifts). | | **Public Registry** | Safety flags shared between rescues. See [Flags](/registry/flags). | Under **Administration** is **Settings**. It shows only for a role that can manage at least one workspace, such as Organization admin. See [Settings](/settings/overview). ### Pages without a sidebar row Many pages belong to a workspace but have no row of their own, so the sidebar stays short. [Search](#search) finds each of them by name, if your role can open it: * In Animals: **Applications**, **Adoptions**, **Reconciliation**, **Reports**, **Transports**, **Transfers**, **Foster homes**, **Medical due**, **Intakes**, **Contract templates**, **Housing** and **Locations**. * In Organizations: **Our organization**. * In Communications: **Inboxes** and **Sending**. * In Fundraising: **Donors** and **Wish list**. * In Shifts: **Schedules**, **Sign up**, **Cancellation requests**, **Roster** and **Volunteers**. * In Settings: **Activity**, **Forms**, **Workflows**, **Record layouts**, **Cage cards**, **Payments**, **Settings history** and **Webhooks**. ### On a phone or small screen The sidebar folds away. Press the menu button at the left of the header to open it. It closes when you choose a page, when you tap outside it, or when you press Escape. ## What a volunteer sees A person whose only role is a volunteer's gets a sidebar of their own, with three rows: | Row | What it is for | | ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **My shifts** | The shifts they have booked. See [My shifts](/shifts/my-shifts). | | **Find a shift** | Shifts they can sign up for. See [Signing up for shifts](/shifts/sign-up). | | **Events** | What the rescue has coming up. See [Events](/events/events). | A volunteer lands on **My shifts** when they sign in, and search offers them only these three pages. Someone who is a volunteer and also holds a staff role gets the full sidebar instead. ## Search Search jumps to a page, a person or an animal by typing part of its name. Open it by pressing **Ctrl K** (on a Mac, **⌘ K**), or by pressing **Search** in the header. On a small screen, **Search** is a magnifying glass. Press **Ctrl K** again, or Escape, to close it. The box reads "Jump to a page, or search people and animals…". As you type, results appear in groups: | Group | What it holds | | ----------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Go to** | Pages whose name matches, including [pages without a sidebar row](#pages-without-a-sidebar-row). A page also matches the words people use for it, so **vaccines** offers **Medical due** and **kennels** offers **Housing**. | | **People** | Up to five people whose first name, last name or email matches, with their email beside the name. | | **Animals** | Up to five animals whose name, breed, microchip number or ID matches, with the species beside the name. | People and animals are searched once you have typed two characters. Until then the palette says **Type 2 characters to search records.** People appear only if your role can read People, and animals only if it can read Animals. Use the up and down arrow keys to move through the results and Enter to open one, or click it. ## Breadcrumbs The line above each page shows where you are, starting from **Home**: for example, **Home / Animals / Biscuit**. Every part except the last is a link, so you can step back up. **Home** takes you to the page you land on when you sign in. On a record, the last part is the record's name. It can show the record's ID for a moment while the page loads. ## The header The header runs across the top of every page. From left to right: * Your rescue's name and logo, and the plan your rescue is on. * **Search** (see [Search](#search)). * On a wide screen, the roles you hold. * The theme button, the notifications bell, **Feedback**, the What's new button, **Help**, **My account** and **Log out**. **Help** opens this documentation at the page for the screen you are on, in a new tab. On a phone the buttons show only their icons. ### Theme The theme button switches how RescueConsole looks. Each press moves to the next of **Match the device**, **Light** and **Dark**. Your choice follows you to other browsers and devices when you sign in there. You can also choose it under **Appearance** on **My account** (see [Your account](/settings/your-account)). ### My account and Log out **My account** opens your own profile, password and preferences. See [Your account](/settings/your-account). **Log out** signs you out on this browser. Other browsers where you are signed in stay signed in. ## Notifications The bell in the header shows what you have been told: when somebody assigns you a submission, an application or a task; when a partner rescue invites you or offers you an animal; and when another rescue asks for your review of a registry flag. A number on the bell counts the ones you have not opened yet, and the list checks for new ones every minute while RescueConsole is open. Press the bell to see your most recent 20. Unread ones are in bold. Click one to go to the record it is about; that marks it read. **Mark all read** clears the count without opening anything. On **My account**, under **Being told about assignments**, you choose how you hear about them: **In the app and by email**, **In the app only**, or **Not at all**. The default is **In the app and by email**. ## Changes to RescueConsole The What's new button, with a sparkle icon, shows what has changed in RescueConsole lately. A dot on it means there is something you have not opened yet. Press it to see the five most recent days with changes, each with a short summary and its lines grouped under their headings. **Everything** opens the full list of changes. Opening the panel clears the dot for you on every device, not for anyone else using the same computer. ## Feedback **Feedback** in the header is how you tell RescueConsole's team what you need, what went wrong, or anything else. Everyone who can sign in has it. ### What people have asked for Pressing **Feedback** first opens **What people have asked for**: a list of requests from rescues, so you can back one instead of writing it again. Each item shows its title, a short summary, how many votes it has and how many rescues are behind it. No names are shown. Press the vote button beside an item to add your vote. Press it again to take your vote back. An item may also say what has been decided about it: | Label | What it means | | ------------------------------ | ---------------------------------- | | **We are going to build this** | It is planned. | | **Being built now** | Work on it has started. | | **Built** | It is done. | | **Not something we will do** | The team has decided against it. | | **Not planned** | The team has no plans to build it. | | **Already asked for** | It repeats another request. | An item that is built, decided against, not planned or already asked for takes no new votes, though you can still take back a vote you gave it. ### Tell us something If your request is not on the list, press **Tell us something** (or **Say something else** below the list). | Field | What it means | | --------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Kind | **An idea** ("Something you wish it did."), **Something is wrong** ("It did not do what you expected."), or **Something else** ("A question, a thank-you, anything."). | | **What is it?** | Required. Up to 4,000 characters. For something wrong, say what you did, what happened, and what you expected. | Press **Send**. The address of the page you were on goes with it, so you do not need to say where you were. What you send is read by RescueConsole's team. It appears on the list only if they give it a title and publish it. Other rescues see only that title and a summary the team writes, never your message or your name.
