# Microchip registry

> List your animals' chip numbers in RescueConsole's own registry, so whoever scans one of them can find you, and say who they should call.

Open **Settings → Operations & forms → Microchip registry**. The page is headed **Public chip registry**.

This is RescueConsole's own chip registry, shared by every rescue on RescueConsole: another shelter or a vet who scans an animal you have, or had, can trace the chip back to you. It is not a commercial registry such as 24Pets or HomeAgain, and listing a chip here does not register it with one.

Everybody who can open Settings can read this page. Only an **Organization admin** can switch publishing on or off, or save the contact.

## Publishing

Publishing is **off** until somebody turns it on. While it is off, somebody who scans one of your animals cannot reach you through the registry.

Press **Publish our chip numbers** to turn it on. Every animal in your care that has a chip number is listed straight away, not only animals you add from now on. After that, an animal's listing is added or brought up to date whenever its record changes: a chip number typed in, a new name, a change of breed.

Press **Stop publishing** to turn it off. Every one of your listings is removed straight away.

The chip number is kept scrambled. A search can confirm a number somebody already has in front of them, and nobody can browse the list.

  Anyone can search the registry by chip number, signed in or not. That is the point: the person holding the scanner is usually neither. What is listed above is what a stranger sees.

## Found-animal contact

The contact shown to whoever searches a chip you have published. It is kept separate from the contact on your [public site](/public-site/overview) on purpose: a stray turns up at eleven at night, and the address you give adopters is rarely the one somebody is watching then.

| ----- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Name  | What to call this line, such as "Night line" or "Intake mobile". |
| Phone | The number a finder should ring.                                 |
| Email | The address a finder should write to.                            |

Press **Save contact**.

If you publish without a contact, the page says *You are publishing with no contact. Searchers will only see your organization's name.* Publishing still works: a finder can look your organization up.
