# My shifts

> Your own shifts as a volunteer: what is coming up, what you have done, your signed-off hours, and giving a shift up.

**My shifts** is your own page. If you are a volunteer, it is the first row in your sidebar, and it is where you land when you sign in. It shows the shifts you have signed up for and the hours you have done, and nobody else's.

To take a new shift, press **Find a shift** at the top of the page (see [Signing up for shifts](/shifts/sign-up)).

## Your totals

| Count                | What it counts                                                                                 |

| **Coming up**        | How many of your shifts are still ahead.                                                       |
| **Hours signed off** | All the hours a coordinator has signed off for you, on every shift you signed up for yourself. |

**Hours signed off** is the number to give a school, a court or an employer that asks how many hours you have volunteered. Hours count once a coordinator has recorded and signed them off, which happens after the shift (see [Your hours](#your-hours)).

## Coming up

Each shift you are down for has a card, soonest first, including one that has started and not yet finished. The card shows:

* the role you are doing, such as **Dog walker**;
* the day and the time it starts;
* who else is on the same shift, by name (*With Sam Ortiz, Priya Shah*). You see their names only, nothing else about them.

If you have nothing booked, the page says *Nothing booked yet*.

## Recently

Below that are up to ten of your shifts that have already started, the most recent first. Each says either how many hours were signed off, or *Waiting to be signed off*.

## Your hours

You do not enter your own hours. After a shift, a coordinator records whether you turned up and how many hours you did, and signs them off on the [Roster](/shifts/roster). Once they have, the hours show on the shift under **Recently** and count toward **Hours signed off**.

If a number looks wrong, ask a coordinator. Signed-off hours can only be changed by a coordinator, who has to take the sign-off back first.

## Giving a shift up

Press **Give it up** on a shift under **Coming up**. It happens at once, with no second question and no box for a reason. What happens next depends on how soon the shift starts:

* **Outside your rescue's notice period**, or when it has none, the shift is given up. It leaves this page, and the place is free for somebody else.
* **Inside the notice period**, a coordinator has to agree. The card says *You have asked to be let off this one. A coordinator will answer.* Until they do, you are still down for the shift.

If a coordinator lets you off, the shift leaves this page. If the rescue still needs you, the shift goes back to normal here, with its **Give it up** button; their answer, and anything they wrote, shows beside the shift on [Sign up](/shifts/sign-up).

If giving it up does not work, the card says *That could not be done just now.* Try again, or tell a coordinator.

<Tip>
  To tell the coordinator why you are giving a shift up, do it from [Sign up](/shifts/sign-up) instead. It asks for a reason, and the reason is what a coordinator reads when they decide.

A shift where you came along with somebody else, as their companion or guardian, is on their sign-up rather than yours, and is not listed on this page.
