The Events workspace is where you plan every occasion your rescue runs — from a Saturday adoption day at a pet store to an annual fundraising gala to a low-cost vaccination clinic. Each event carries its own status, links to the volunteer shifts that staff it, and lists the animals who will attend. When you’re ready for the public to know about it, one toggle publishes it straight to your rescue’s website.

Event types

Every event has a type that describes its purpose. The types available are:

Adoption Days

Off-site or in-shelter events where animals meet potential adopters. Link the animals attending so your website shows who will be there.

Fundraisers

Galas, auctions, bake sales, or any event where the goal is raising money for the rescue.

Clinics

Vaccination, microchipping, spay/neuter, or other community veterinary events, whether for your animals or the public.

Training

Volunteer orientations, handler training sessions, and any structured educational event for your team.

Meetings

Board meetings, volunteer check-ins, coordinator calls, or any internal gathering you want tracked.

Statuses

Each event moves through a status you control — draft, scheduled, in progress, completed, or cancelled. Statuses let you keep events in planning without publishing them, and let coordinators see at a glance which events are confirmed and which are still being arranged.

Linking shifts to an event

An event is the occasion; a shift is the work. Open an event and attach the shifts that cover it — the kennel team, the registration table, the transport drivers. Volunteers book those shifts through the normal Shifts workspace, and the event record shows how staffed each role is. This separation means one shift can belong to one event without duplicating setup.

Linking animals to an event

For adoption days and clinics, attach the animals who will attend. The attending animals list on an event record tells your team exactly who needs to be loaded in the van on Saturday morning. When you mark the event public, those animals appear alongside the event on your rescue’s website so potential adopters know who to come and meet.

Coverage at a glance

The Events list shows you, for every upcoming event, how many shift places still need to be filled. You can see whether Saturday’s adoption day is fully staffed or still short three volunteers without opening each event individually.

Repeating and recurring events

For events that happen on a regular schedule — a weekly volunteer meeting, a monthly clinic — you can set a recurrence pattern so you aren’t creating each instance by hand. Each occurrence is its own record, so you can adjust the details of one without changing the whole series.
Marking an event public instantly shows it on your rescue’s public website, including the animals attending and any details you’ve entered. You don’t need to touch the website separately — it pulls directly from the event record.
